We chose this topic out of a list that my teacher gave us. She also gave us class time to do research on some of the topics. We decided to do some research on vulcanized rubber because we thought, Vulcanized, was an interesting word. We did more research when we got home and decided that that's the topic we wanted to do.
At first, we used the laptops in class to do some research. When we got home, we would use out own laptops and usually use Skype to communicate with each other on weekdays. We used many sites to conduct our research. We also met up after school and went to libraries. Even though we couldn't find anything on vulcanized Rubber, the Librarian did give us a list of websites that she gave to other students on a presentation she did. It was quite a challenge for us to find the all of the sources sources.
The way we decided on our presentation category was quite simple, we decided that doing a paper or an exhibit was too mainstream and the a documentary sounded hard. When we heard that we could do a website, we knew that would be the one that we would do because it sounded like a really fun idea. James said that a research paper would be easier but I wanted to do it the fun way. We ended up doing a website. We created the website by taking all of the knowledge we had from the sources and typing them down. We also made a little quiz that people could take if they actually read the paragraphs.
The Vulcanization of Rubber by Charles Goodyear is indeed a turning point in history. It helped tanks in World War I and II, it allowed for car rides to be more smooth, the rubber on an airplanes tire would just melt if you were trying to land from the heat from friction! The rubber industry skyrocketed after this creation. It's included in so many of today's inventions. If Charles Goodyear had never invented this, could have even lost the wars. This, is why it's a turning point in history.
